#ComedyModel Comedy social media as a model for drama

With the Phonic Drama Show I have been trying to find bits of sound that promote live performance. Phonic is mostly music so the audience is familiar with samples, remix, social media versions of new releases and previous live concerts. So far I find that most people working on theatre productions do not think about such a format or prefer to expect an audience to only discover new content through live experience in a theatre.

Comedy is part of the Fringe scene ( based on Exeter Fringe so far ) and is somewhere in between. There can be versions of a longer routine that work as clips for short video. Or they may be in a sequence. The writing is closer to improv maybe.

So I am trying to base a discussion around the Comedian Spot during the Music Awards in Edinburgh this September. I will also play music  during the radio show as acts are announced. I will be looking at how performance is promoted through social media. Radio can have longer versions, I include 30 minute plays within a two hour show. but also mix with sound clips from social media when allowed.

I recently played music around "Bigger Than Lyrics" by Beyond Face as they references Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys in preparing the work. at some point it might be possible to include recordings as part of radio shows but connected tracks are a start.

Possibly next year Phonic could be part of DAB broadcasting in Plymouth. Plymouth University has a course on Musical Theatre so this may encourage a wider scope. I find in Exeter that theatre is often seen as an alternative to the commercial world of social media so getting clips for radio is quite difficult. Any links are welcome on articles or tweets about this sort of thing. It may start with the writing of scripts in various formats.
