Plan for the week

This week I am getting ready for a video for a conference on cities. This is a follow up to one from June 2021. this started with the idea of a temp radio studio to explore urban space. Place as stage is the title, I will try to include a quote from Doreen Massey but I am still not sure when Stage exists. On Saturday the Play Cafe will be at MakeTank as part of a Social Science set of events.I hope to record some of the music performance and also find some ideas that may fit with the video. Last week there was Access All Aerials in Princesshay so a continuation of a playful walk from previous Futures event. I am not sure how this fits together but still ten days or so for an edit. An article about Nomads and Artisans may relate to how a radio show is created either in a studio or moving about or in a mix.

Update on Heavitree Bus Stop

Last week I did a video on behalf of  "Disgruntled of Heavitree" about the bus stop at South Lawn Terrace ( in Exeter UK ) .  The problem is that the time table is now very high on the poster, in small type though surrounded by white space. Devon Live have added to the story and the video has had 700 views. However I don't think StageCoach realise there is still a problem.

StageCoach statement for Devon Live -

"We have recently introduced a new system to manage our bus stop information, allowing us to deliver bespoke timetables for each bus stop.  The launch of the new software has been enabled by significant investment, as part of a wider project to improve our network of bus stops across the region.

"Exeter has seen the initial phase of this rollout with bus stops across the city being fitted with stop-specific departure information, designed to improve our customers' ability to journey plan and quickly check departures.

"As with any new project, we continue to review outputs and welcome customer feedback to ensure that the final product offers the highest quality information to the communities we serve."

The design appears to remain the same for any number of routes. So I have seen examples for four routes where all the space is used. But the software could be written to realise when there is just one route and then use a larger typeface or place the one route at the bottom of the page where more people could read it.

I will tweet again to StageCoach and also Exeter Council and Devon County Council . Last week I was told they are closely involved with transport and bus stops.

Meanwhile I have noticed the bus stop at the Innovation Centre on the university campus has a much better design, one route on one page at eye level.

Also of interest, Chris Norton on the wild show told me about green buttons on the bus stands at the new Exeter bus station. the video is poor so far. More later.

Dates and Topics around Play and FutureLearn

Following two videos from Futures2022 I am intending to link to more events from Playful Cafe and then my own video for a conference on Future Cities. Background continues how a hybrid model of learning could work and how much building is required. Do we need more student accommodation in Exeter ? If Exeter University did more online there might be less need for residence. The playful way to raise this question includes plays such as the #CDWalk and the Kendal ruins of the Fortress University. Next year at BETT and Learning Technologies there will be discussion based on reality. The OU has announced intention to sell 50% of Futurelearn. What will happen to UK involvement in learning platforms?
