Oxford Mid Summer 2024 one

 start of a drama maybe

Oxford Mid Summer

Situation for a drama. Pub garden in countryside near Oxford. At least two characters - police officer and local journalist - maybe more. They discuss news from London but never go there. Recently an accidental death of student jumping off bridge into shallow wter in river. Reminds them of similar accident a while ago and unreported hit and run in country lane. They hear about events in London including MPs, think tanks and newspapers. They hear that the student who died in the hit and run had been an intern the previous summer hand delivering documents from a think tank to newspapers. Conversation continues. there is no murder solution if there ever was one but a richer picture of a social situation becomes more clear for the audience.

Notes for drama show on social media

During May looking at Futurelearn MOOC about being an online educator. This is ahead of June visit by the Standup Philosopher and EduExe events. From #THEdigitalUK event it is possible a digital university is based on one campus. Education through social media could be similar to promoting performance bot specific events and mre general understanding. It turned out videos from OU course were already on YouTube with Creative Commons licence. ( Search on Residents and Visiters jiscnetskills )

Recently the Drama Show on Phonic has had more short pieces that promote live performance. Also short stories read aloud though intended for print. There is more awareness of social media. This could go further though. couple of years back there was permission to broadcast climate stories from COP but not at end of last year. There are previous ones also. There are now many posters in Princesshay and the mural near the library is still expected. So maybe there are possibilities around this. There is a wide range of content available on climate but working out how to relate to the university is important as they have a significant interest.

Creative Commons is an option on YouTube but rarely chosen . One advantage is that sound can be played on radio. We can work out ways round this with agreements to recognise copyright but get the results Creative Commons is designed for.

Over the summer various experiments are possible. Starting with music where remix on radio is fairly well accepted. There are Phonic FM benefits coming up in the autumn. Also Sonic Whip will be visiting Devon.

Moving dates for May

I had thought a Futurelearn MOOC about online learning did not start for a couple of weeks but it turns out to be available.I will try to start it and share bits online during May. This is ahead of the EduExe festival next month. I have propsed trying to link radio shows but this is now a bit vague. Depends what happens in May.

Also I am shifting te weeks around for the MOOC. Chris Norton will be away the last two weeks so next week Wild Show will be include chat about "Innovation and Accessibility" . We have also covered voice interface to computers / phones on the We Don't Know show with Jon Mahy. This week starts with "Who Am I Online?" . It turns out the OU borrowed some video from JISC. Creative Commons so no problem. Still very relevant a decade later.

There are three in the series.

Also David White has a more recent video on Vimeo.

This covers AI and design of courses to move online. From  a business school in Sydney so there are links to management issues.

Also on the 22nd May there is an event at the Forum about STEAM - Arts in context of Science, Tech, Engineering and Maths. The idea of a STEAM village in central Exeter follows visits to BETT.
